@ Tynecastle Stadium, Edinburgh, Capacity 17, 420.

Admittedly there wasn’t too far for me to go to test this particular pie. Tynecastle football stadium is just a few miles from my house.  Hearts were at home to Kilmarnock for this Scottish Premier league match. (Part of me wished Kilmarnock had brought a stash of pies with them and saved me the journey later this month!!)

Sitting snug amongst the  Hearts supporters it was great to hear they were right behind their team, hollering encouragement at the players on the pitch. It was with enthusiasm that I headed to the Kiosk during half time and bought my steak pie.  It would be great to be here and see a home win.

Sadly, settled back in my seat for the second half, my pie tasting was set against the backdrop of two visitor goals and the mood in the stand rapidly changed. After the first goal fans still shouted for Hearts to ‘bring it back’.  But after the second goal was secured,  the fear that Hearts might  lose their 8 straight home win title became a little more real.  Supporters complained to each other loudly and some shouted angrily towards the players. It was a dejected bunch that left the stadium as the final whistle blew.

It was a shame and I thought that the refs had been a little unfair on Hearts in the first half, but maybe that was football? Do I still have so much to learn?  I was however quite chuffed to whisper ‘offside’under my breath as it was said aloud by the guys around me. I’m getting there 🙂

Oh and the Pie? The pie was served nice and hot, the top and outside  pastry nice and crisp. The inside was steak mince and not regular meat chunks, as I thought it would be. BUT the downside to the pie was the soggy underneath. As I lifted the pie out of the foil case it collapsed with the weight of the filling 🙁 Overall it was a decent enough pie, apart from the soggy underneath I would say I ate two thirds of it, though by then I was pretty hungry and would happily have eaten the whole thing.  I score it 5/10.
